OCFC opens the new Food Pharmacy- Food is Medicine

OCFC launched its new Food Pharmacy to support Patients with chronic illnesses and address food insecurity with nutritious options that are customized to their particular chronic condition.  The Food Pharmacy does not replace critical local food pantry services that patients need, but instead is a supplement for patients who want to manage their illness with food that is "right" ...Food is Medicine!  The Clinic partnered with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank to open the first Food Pharmacy here in Orange and plans to expand with the help of a $50,000 matching grant from the Perry Foundation that will help grow the space and make room for a counseling, nutriton education and ESL class area (we must match the grant $ for $). When completed, the area will be a communtiy space for other non-profits to use as well. Big Plans and we are working hard to secure our matching portion of the grant! 

OCFC Service include:

• Primary Health including Chronic and acute care services
• Mental Health Counseling
• Spanish Language Interpreter Services
• Chronic Disease Care -Management of Chronic diseases (Diabetes, hypertension, asthma  and hyperthyroidism for example) 
• New- Food Pharmacy- Food is Medicine to support patient' nutrition needs to help manage their  Chronic illnesses 
• Medical Supplies and take home monitoring devices for patients with chronic illnesses are provided through our OCFC Cares service. 
• X-rays and Laboratory tests
•  Referrals to Specialty Care
•  Common generic medications are provided through Orange Pharmacy and Your Gordonsville Pharmacy 
• Medication Assistance Program (MAP):  High Costing medications can be ordered through the Medication Assistance Program, which has a separate enrollment on-site and does not require registration as a OCFC patient . Pharmaceutical companies supply Medications and may be shipped to the patient or to the Clinic for pick-up.
• Women's Wellness Care  including Pap and Pelvic Screenings, referrals for Mammogram Screening for women 40+ 
• Monthly UVA Mobile Mammogram  Screenings through "Every Woman's Life"- a  grant funded service 
• Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital brings Colon Cancer Screenings twice a year to the Clinic 

Wrap Around Services (Patient Support):

• Community Health Worker (CHW)- Offers support and assistance to patients with non-medical needs
• Community Food Pantry (canned goods, fresh eggs and vegatables in season) and  Clothes Closet
• Personal Hygeine and OTC supplies from Direct Relief .
